VT Retailer of the Year Award

As most of you are aware, Claussen’s was the recipient of the distinguished honor of being recognized as “The Retailer of the Year” by the Vermont Retailers Association!! This was the first time that this award was ever given and is truly an honor for our company to receive this competing against several hundred other Vermont businesses.

The Vermont Retail Association represents a large business community membership. Many Vermont businesses throughout the state were nominated by their fellow businesspeople. The winners were selected after lengthy review by a panel made up of judges with long and successful retail experience of their own in Vermont. The four winners in three different categories were chosen by examining various criteria, such as incorporating superior practices, sustainability, innovation, environmental sensitivity, and community involvement.

Clearly, each of you deserves the congratulations and recognition for this award as dedicated employees of Claussen’s. As we continue to change with the market and challenges facing our industry during these tough times, I recognize the fact that our strength and ability to manage these times is directly related to our employees, and your willingness to do whatever it takes to make a difference. I truly appreciate all of your hard work and dedication!

The times ahead of us may be scary, however we recognize the fact that we are very fortunate to have a team of employees such as you to bring us forward in this economy. Recognition for your hard work is truly receiving this “Retailer of the year award”.

A Colchester florist is Vermont's retailer of the year.

Claussen's Florist and Greenhouse received the first-ever award from the Vermont Retail Association. The business was one of about two dozen businesses across the state that were nominated. Claussen's once operated six different stores in Vermont and New York-- and has been in business in Colchester the last 39 years.

"The cost of utilities and goods have escalated in the last few years and we really work hard to make sure that we do things right and this award is recognition of that I guess," said Chris Conant of Claussen's.

The committee said it chose Claussen's because of its ability overcome to obstacles while maintaining quality products and service.

Claussen's named top retailer

Claussen Enterprises of Colchester is the 2008 Vermont Retail Association Retailer of the Year.

In making their selection, the VRA panel of judges noted that "Year after year, Claussen's has overcome every obstacle a Vermont business can face while maintaining only the highest quality in products and service. Their plants are exceptional, their staff is superb, and they exemplify the very best aspects of retail business. Claussen's richly deserves to be honored at the 2008 VRA Retailer of the Year."

Claussen was founded by William "Willie" Claussen, who grew up in Long Island, N.Y., the son of a successful commercial rose grower. He worked tirelessly in all aspects to build the business.

In the 1980s, Chris Conant, now vice president, formed a partnership with Claussen. "The success of Claussen's Florist and Greenhouses remains today from years and years of hard work of many dedicated employees, following the wishes and the directive of William Claussen."
